OUR FOUNDER
Meet Mariea A. Becknell, MA, CCC-SLP

WELCOME
SpeechWorks! Therapy Services, Inc. was founded by Mariea A. Becknell, a nationally certified and state licensed speech-language pathologist because she knew that is was her duty to share her expertise with children and their families. Mariea has enjoyed 20+ years success as a speech-language pathologist by supporting children birth to school aged while maintaining an appropriate high standard of care.
Starting her career in her local school system and later working in early intervention, Mariea has spent over two decades helping children find their voices. Her journey led naturally to the creation of SpeechWorks! Therapy Services, Inc, which is a space built on compassion, expertise, and a deep commitment to excellence. Known for her warm, relational approach, she prioritizes meaningful connections with both children and their families, creating a supportive environment where communication can truly thrive.

With a heart for community and connection, Mariea loves engaging with children and families beyond the clinic walls. Whether at local retreats, story times, or neighborhood events, she brings her passion for communication and child development into the community by offering playful interactions, helpful tips, and warm encouragement. These moments reflect her belief that meaningful relationships and everyday experiences are the foundation of strong communication skills.
Mariea is a member of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence. Mariea has been recognized as an Award for Continued Education recipient for her exceptional commitment to continuing professional development by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Mariea's clinical interests include early childhood language disorders, phonological disorders, apraxia of speech and Autism Spectrum Disorders.

When she’s not at the clinic, Mariea finds joy in life’s creative and soulful moments. She enjoys listening to jazz, exploring new restaurants around the city, and attending outdoor events like music festivals. Her downtime is often spent with friends and family or immersed in artistic projects such as designing, creating, and drawing inspiration from the world around her. These passions bring balance and fuel the creativity she brings into her work with children and families.
